The Problem With American Democracy
The "Founding Fathers" were largely aristocrats and intellectual snobs. They didn't trust the "common man," and as a result, it is VERY difficult to get anything done. In a Parliamentary system, the leader of the Majority Party is generally the Prime Minister, and can be assured that his party members will support his legislative agenda. This is not the case in American Democracy, and as a result, a progressive President like John Kennedy, Bill Clinton or Mr. Obama, is often prevented from getting key measures through the U. S. Congress. I find it ludicrous that people vote for a Democratic President, then vote for Republican Senators and Representatives, then wonder why the President couldn't get anything done. People are blaming President Obama for the current mess, but he doesn't have a REAL majority in Congress, so key parts of his programs have been eliminated or seriously diluted. Do yourself a favor, and vote for members of Congress who will support the President! Oh, and PLEASE go vote!
